Trip Planning
All you need to know
If you love walking through stunning scenery, then a holiday on the South West Coast Path is for you. It’s easy to get to, and with plenty of places to stay you can set your own pace. To help make it simple, on this part of the site we’ve pulled together all the information you need to plan your trip.
If you're thinking about walking the whole 630-mile route, check out our 52 day suggested itinerary, which includes day-by-day descriptions, distances, a photo gallery, and nearby places of interest.
We've also created short breaks where you can find suggested itineraries ranging in length from a weekend to 10 days, spread across the Path, tailored to different walking speeds.
Whilst you can find a lot of information on this site, you will get much more out of your holiday with one of the many guidebooks, and of course a map. In our Shop you'll find details of some of the souvenirs and other publications about the Coast Path. Check out our Planning Finder to find places to stay/eat and drink and take part in activities along your way.
If this is your first walking holiday, take a look at our What to take page, which is full of advice about clothing, footwear, and what to pack into your rucksack.
Once you’ve decided you want to come and walk the path, the next thing to work out is how to get to your starting point. Our 'Getting Around the Path' and 'Getting to the South West' pages have all the information you need to plan your journey.
The beauty of our coast is a result of the ongoing erosion of the cliffs, but the downside of this is that sometimes it is necessary to re-route the Coast Path around cliff falls. You'll find details of any current diversions (and new sections of the path) on our Route Changes page.
