Find Your Way

We want to make sure that the South West Coast Path is easy to find and easy to follow, so that everyone can benefit from experiencing the Trail and all that it has to offer.

We’ve all taken wrong turns now an again and will know how frustrating it can be – but it is a problem that a well-placed signpost can solve instantly. Sufficient signage not only helps seasoned walkers find their way, it also inspires confidence in those who are less sure footed – to explore, and benefit from, the natural world around them.

Our volunteers survey the South West Coast Path every year for us, and at the last count there were over 4,000 waymarkers on the Trail. Due to wear and tear, and increasingly severe weather events which cause further damage, 25% of them now need replacing, which could cost up to £135,000.

We want to start by replacing the signposts that are in the worst condition, by investing £10,000. But we need your help! By donating to Find Your Way as part of Every Mile Matters, you could help us reach this target and help millions of people find their way on the Trail. Donating any amount, large or small, will make a world of difference.

Where are signposts most needed?

Locations include Torbay, with some signage required at Berry Head. In North Devon they are needed around Barnstaple and Combe Martin and on stretches from Abbotsham to Marsland Mouth further south. And in Cornwall many parts of the Lizard section and that around Par, in the direction towards Polperro, need replacement signs.

If you'd prefer to make a donation over the phone or discuss this appeal further, please do not hesitate to contact us. We’d love to hear from you.
