About the Association

For over a quarter of a century we have been championing the South West Coast Path to make it one of the world’s greatest trails. Since its designation as a National Trail in 1973, we have been working to establish, improve and protect the 630 mile route to make your experience on the Path the best it can be.

Today, the South West Coast Path Association (SWCPA) is a registered charity, providing information for the National Trail and raising funds to improve access for all. We coordinate hundreds of projects with the help of the Trails Partnership.

Our vision

Protecting and improving the South West Coast Path as one of the world's greatest trails, now and for future generations.

Our mission

We will champion the South West Coast Path to help people access, enjoy and protect the National Trail.

Our work is only possible thanks to the support of 7,000 members, individual fundraisers, business supporters, regular donors and of course, our volunteers. We have over 100 volunteers who give their time help us carry out the work needed to look after the Trail.

For every mile, from Minehead in Somerset to the shores of Poole Harbour in Dorset, it costs us £1,400 to keep the Path open, clearly signed and in good shape. That's over £880,000 every year. If you love the South West Coast Path, help us care for it by becoming a member. You’ll receive a Complete Guide to the South West Coast Path, so you can start exploring it for yourself and at least £10 of your membership fee will go straight back into the Path.
