History, Nature, Landscape
The South West Coast Path is one of our most precious wildlife corridors and is home to a huge variety of wildlife. Much of the land beside the Path has been designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest, and it passes through many nature reserves.
Along the Coast Path you will discover the evidence left behind from millennia of people living, working and occasionally fighting along our coastline. Once’s you’ve had the chance to explore some of these incredible sites you’ll understand why we’re fighting to protect the Path.
As you journey along the coastline of Exmoor, Devon, Cornwall and Dorset, the geology you walk over varies greatly and this is the main reason we have such varied scenery along the Path. Coastal erosion however, is one of our main challenges when it comes to looking after the Path. Visit our Support Us section to find out who you could help.
Generations of artists, craftspeople, writers and musicians have chosen to live near or visit the coast of South West England, its inspiration reflected in their work. Why not add an extra dimension to your Coast Path walk by tracking down some of them?
