Coast Path Connectors Plymouth

Hi, I’m Gemma, I engage with the Plymouth community to ensure local residents can enjoy walking on the Coast Path. My responsibilities include identifying and addressing current barriers and challenges, organising walking groups tailored to various interests and abilities, and managing a dedicated team of volunteers who serve as walk leaders.”

Community organisations we work with:

The below video introduces you to Gemma (Community Engagement - Plymouth) and one of our previous project partners – the University of Plymouth’s student wellbeing team. Watch the group as they walk around the coast near Wembury, on the outskirts of Plymouth, to get an idea of the sorts of walks we deliver. We initially lead walks with university students for a year, and after this, we trained their staff so that they can continue to take groups out to discover the beautiful Coast Path into the future.

Accessibility

Each walk has been planned to be appropriate for the walking group and participants’ needs. We will always let participants know where the nearest toilets are, the terrain, steepness, steps on route, and distance. We aim to make our walks as accessible as we can. Please do get in contact if you need further information before the walk, to check that it is suitable for your individual needs.

Here is a quote from one of our North Devon walk participants which demonstrates the impacts of the project:

''The SWCPA CPC walks has been invaluable to me in so many ways.  Physically, walking with the group has enabled me to try to build up my strength after a cancer diagnosis meant chemotherapy treatment left me feeling weak and despondent. Psychologically, I've been able to push myself to get out and exercise (even in the depths of winter!). Finding that the walks are a gentle healing balm has been so uplifting, better than any medicine. There is no expectation to socialise, no pressure to mingle...these things just happen organically, in beautiful surroundings gently nurtured by nature. Knowing that safety is paramount and that  the walks are carefully considered and planned means that I can relax and enjoy being out in the elements..."in the moment"...such a precious gift to bestow...I'm very grateful."
