Coast Path Connectors Dorset

Hi, I’m Catherine. I have worked for various environmental charities in community engagement roles, and am passionate about sharing my love of the natural world with other people. Working on the Coast Path Connectors project, I have helped people experience the benefits of walking the coast path on their mental and physical health, while also fostering an appreciation for nature.

Community organisations we work with:

The below video introduces you to the Catherine (Community Engagement - Dorset) and one of our volunteers Jon on a walk at Old Harrys Rocks near Swanage in Summer 2024. Connecting participants to nature is a key aspect of the project and walking throughout the seasons like these groups do, means that there is always so much to discover on the Coast Path.

Accessibility

Each walk has been planned to be appropriate for the walking group and participants’ needs. We will always let participants know where the nearest toilets are, the terrain, steepness, steps on route, and distance. We aim to make our walks as accessible as we can. Please do get in contact if you need further information before the walk, to check that it is suitable for your individual needs.

Here is a quote from one of our North Devon walk participants which demonstrates the impacts of the project:

''The SWCPA CPC walks has been invaluable to me in so many ways.  Physically, walking with the group has enabled me to try to build up my strength after a cancer diagnosis meant chemotherapy treatment left me feeling weak and despondent. Psychologically, I've been able to push myself to get out and exercise (even in the depths of winter!). Finding that the walks are a gentle healing balm has been so uplifting, better than any medicine. There is no expectation to socialise, no pressure to mingle...these things just happen organically, in beautiful surroundings gently nurtured by nature. Knowing that safety is paramount and that  the walks are carefully considered and planned means that I can relax and enjoy being out in the elements..."in the moment"...such a precious gift to bestow...I'm very grateful."
