Coast Path Connectors North Devon

Hi, I’m Huw, and I engage with the North Devon community. Supporting and encouraging people to get out and connect with nature is a wonderful vocation as the benefits for individuals can be immediate. I am especially interested in those that have barriers to participating and looking forward to working with more community groups and individuals in future.

Community organisations we work with:

The below video introduces you to Huw (Community Engagement - North Devon) and volunteer Nick, as they walk with a regular open group of walkers. Anyone is welcome to join this walking group which is made up of people who had been referred by health professionals, members of our bereavement walking group Healing Steps as well other members of the public.

Accessibility

Each walk has been planned to be appropriate for the walking group and participants’ needs. We will always let participants know where the nearest toilets are, the terrain, steepness, steps on route, and distance. We aim to make our walks as accessible as we can. Please do get in contact if you need further information before the walk, to check that it is suitable for your individual needs.

Here is a quote from one of our North Devon walk participants which demonstrates the impacts of the project:

''The SWCPA CPC walks has been invaluable to me in so many ways.  Physically, walking with the group has enabled me to try to build up my strength after a cancer diagnosis meant chemotherapy treatment left me feeling weak and despondent. Psychologically, I've been able to push myself to get out and exercise (even in the depths of winter!). Finding that the walks are a gentle healing balm has been so uplifting, better than any medicine. There is no expectation to socialise, no pressure to mingle...these things just happen organically, in beautiful surroundings gently nurtured by nature. Knowing that safety is paramount and that  the walks are carefully considered and planned means that I can relax and enjoy being out in the elements..."in the moment"...such a precious gift to bestow...I'm very grateful."
