Boscastle Car Park - PL35 0HE Boscastle Car Park
Moderate - Coastal path with a lot of gradient, including steps.
Walk from Boscastle to Tintagel and catch the bus back, or take a bus to Boscastle and walk back to Tintagel. The rocks here were dramatically deformed during a mountain-building period nearly 300 million years ago and then sculpted further by the sea and the weather, giving rise to an extensive slate-quarrying industry along the coastline. Pause along the way for a picnic: on a rocky headland where prehistoric people lived in round huts, or above the cliffs where quarry workers once dangled above the sea on makeshift platforms, or maybe on an island or a sandy beach, or a sunny ledge in the atmospheric gorge at Rocky Valley. Look out for puffins on the islands and grey seals hauling out on the rocks below at low tide.
