Walk - Moor Wood
2.5 miles (4.0 km)
Quay West Car Park, Minehead - TA24 5UN Quay West car park, Minehead
Moderate - Paths, tracks, narrow woodland footpaths, with some ascent and descent
Leaving from Minehead's harbour, this walk climbs steadily through mature woodland teeming with wildlife. At the top of the hill it loops through Moor Wood, used for tank training by the American and Canadian troops stationed here in the Second World War, before dropping back into Minehead via Higher Town, where the thatched cottages are clustered around a fourteenth-century church. A good walk for children, who will love stumbling upon the wartime relics in the woods. It is a lovely walk in autumn, as the trees start to turn and small mammals forage among the fallen leaves for fallen nuts and seeds.
