Walk - Smugglers Inn - Burning Cliff
4.7 miles (7.5 km)
Smuggler's Inn, Osmington Mills, DT3 6HF Smuggler's Inn
Moderate - Some steep ascent and descent, and footpaths may be muddy.
An invigorating walk full of fascinating features, including fossils and ledges on the shingle beaches of an important geological area, where the rocks in the cliff spontaneously catch fire from time to time. The route passes through woodland and then climbs past a series of undercliffs formed from landslides, creating a valuable habitat for many different species of plants, birds and animals. It carries on along a high ridge with spectacular views across to Portland, before dropping to the lost village of West Ringstead on its way back.
