Walk - Hartland Point
1.7 miles (2.7 km)
Hartland Point Car Park - EX39 6DU Hartland Point Car Park
Moderate - The path is rough in places, and there are short stretches of ascent and descent, some of it steep
A short stroll above the dramatic rocky cliffs at Hartland Quay, where the lighthouse keeps watch over treacherous waters that have claimed many a ship over the centuries. Children will be fascinated by the rusty wreckage of the Johanna, still visible where she ran aground on the rocks far below more than 30 years ago. A good walk in autumn, especially on a windy day, when the passing flocks of migrant skuas, terns and shearwaters may sometimes contain unusual gulls as well.
