Walk - Embury Beacon
4.0 miles (6.4 km)
Welcombe Mouth - EX39 6HL Welcombe Mouth
Moderate - There are several stretches of steep gradients, including steps, and the path travels close to the cliff-edge, so keep an eye on children and dogs.
A walk along the edge of vertical cliffs towering above deadly rock ridges where huge Atlantic breakers have hurled many a ship to its doom in winter storms. Heading inland, the path passes South Hole, where Thomas Hardy's in-laws lived. From here it descends to return through the pretty woodland that hugs the bottom of the high hill used throughout history to keep a cautious eye on anything that might be happening out at sea.
