Walk - Basset's Cove & Tehidy
4.6 miles (7.4 km)
Portreath, Main Car Park - TR16 4PQ Portreath, Main Car Park
Moderate - Good surfaces throughout with a couple of steep climbs on the Coast Path section.
A circuit through the remnants of one of Cornwall's richest mining areas and on to Tehidy Country Park, for many centuries the seat of the influential Basset family. The return route is along a breathtaking coastline of high cliffs and secret coves, where the waves have carved the rocks into soaring pinnacles and dramatic fins and cut away whole chunks of headland to leave clusters of tiny islands rising from a shoreline decked out in seaweed and rockpools. In summer the coastal heathland blazes with gorse and heather and the grass fringing the path is sprinkled with wildflowers.
If you are starting the walk from Tehidy Country Park North Cliffs car park, follow the route directions from 6. If you are joining from one of the National Trust car parks on North Cliffs, turn right on the South West Coast Path and follow it to the steep valley at Carvannel Downs, following the route directions from 8.
