Royal William Yard & Devil's Point walk
Distance: 1 mile. Grade: Easy
Descend the stunning new steps from Devil's Point Park into the Yard and enjoy the changes made to this home of Plymouth's naval history. A gentle walk with views across Plymouth Sound. Stand where centuries of families waved goodbye to their loved ones as they ventured out onto the oceans as part of our Royal Navy.
Sutton Harbour Heritage Trail
Distance: 1.1 miles. Grade: Easy
Sutton Harbour is the birthplace of the modern City of Plymouth. This walk follows the Heritage Trail around the Harbour passing through centuries of history. Sutton Harbour is home to a wealth of restaurants, cafés, visitor attractions and shops. The walk is on level tarmac surfaces. There are many restaurants and pubs for a refreshment stop and plenty of opportunities to pause and reflect upon the busy marine activity all aorund you.
Sutton Harbour to Royal William Yard
Distance: 3 miles. Grade: Easy
Starting from the Harbour Car Park follow the path around the Sutton Harbour Heritage Trail to the historic Barbican where the Pilgrim Fathers left for America. This gentle walk passes the Hoe with its great views across Plymouth Sound through to the magnificent Royal William Yard. All along the route are artworks which help bring the past alive.
The Forts and Castles of Plymouth Sound
Distance: 7 miles. Grade: Moderate
Plymouth has been an important naval port for many centuries, which has led to the building of a variety of defences to protect the port. This walk passes a number of these defences as it circles around the eastern side of Plymouth Sound.
Cremyll Ferry to Kingsand & Cawsand
Distance: 3.5 miles. Grade: Moderate
A walk along a very unusual section of the Coast Path, passing mainly through parkland with stunning views across Plymouth Sound and a wealth of historical interest. Children will love to ramble through the grounds of Mount Edgcumbe, with its many fascinating features, and will enjoy the beach at Kingsand. An especially inspiring walk in early spring, when the National Camellia Collection is in full bloom.
