Walk - Pendeen Watch & Portheras Cove
2.8 miles (4.5 km)
Pendeen Watch car park - TR19 7ED Pendeen Watch
Easy - A short descent to Portheras Cove and a gentle climb out of it; on footpaths through famrland and quiet lanes.
A gentle amble through fields and heathland, starting from Pendeen Watch lighthouse, where there are sometimes tours of the unique siren and its associated machinery. Cornwall's famous antiquarian Willam Borlase and his descendant, archaeologist William Copeland Borlase, were both born in the historic manor house just off-route, itself the site of some fascinating prehistoric buildings. The sandy beach at Portheras Cove features wrecks and smugglers, and the holy well at Trewellard once doubled up as a laundry and was a useful source of medicinal leeches! Look out for seals on the beach and dolphins offshore.
