Walking the Path for the SWCPA and the National Coastwatch Institution

Kathy Parker tackled this personal challenge in sequence, making several visits each year since August 2022 and finishing on her 78th birthday, 10 April 2026, in a total of 78 days.  Kathy walked the entire 630 miles of Path and decided to support the South West Coast Path Association and the National Coastwatch Institution (NCI).

“It costs the SWCP Association  £1700 per mile per year to maintain the Path. I have seen the evidence of the constant work involved on the Path surface, the signage and the deviations set up when there has been erosion. Their handbook is invaluable for planning, tracking progress and lots of useful, localised information – especially about vital ferries along the route!!! Although I do not now live in the South West, I love reading about the events that are the spin-off involving local people who just love the Path. The Trailblazing magazine and the website make good and interesting reading to keep me in touch.” Kathy said of her support.

The National Coastwatch Institution are another fantastic charity who we work closely with. Their stations along the Path are all “friend” Way Makers, meaning complimentary membership and stamping points for Coast Path passports along the path. Watch officers are all volunteers and considered our “eyes along the coast”. Kathy said of visiting the stations on her trip,

“I have met so many of these dedicated and friendly volunteers when I have called in to get my passport stamped and am aware that while the manpower is all voluntary, the funding to make the stations function efficiently must be a challenge.“

Kathy fundraised an amazing £1200 + £222.50 Gift Aid divided equally between SWCPA & NCI.
