Coast Path Centre Opens in Plymouth

From L to R: Jackie Gillespie (Gillespie Yunnie Architects); Hilary Dinsdale (Chair, SWCPA); Julian Gray (Director, SWCPA); Sarah O'Brien (National Trust)

On 13 May, we were delighted to welcome stakeholders, partners, supporters, neighbours, and volunteers to the new Coast Path Centre at Royal William Yard in Plymouth.

When we first moved the charity's HQ to RWY in 2019, our idea was to create a purpose-built, accessible space for the Coast Path — which has now become a reality. The newly opened Coast Path Centre includes a workspace for the team, a meeting area, and a hub for our Plymouth Coast Path Connectors and other volunteers.

It was wonderful to have architect Jackie Gillespie of Gillespie Yunnie Architects speak about the work at the historic Royal William Yard, and for Sarah O'Brien of the National Trust to offer a warm welcome to everyone who joined us for the occasion.

Julian Gray, Director of the South West Coast Path Association, said,

"It’s great to celebrate this important step for the charity with our partners, creating an accessible space on the Coast Path for people to celebrate this world class trail."

This marks phase one of the project, made possible by the support from Natural England. In the coming months, we’ll be working on phase two, which will develop a public exhibition space to share the story of the South West Coast Path, highlighting the challenges and opportunities it brings for people, nature, and local communities.

If you’re in the area, please do drop in and say hello. As we’re still in the early stages, we don’t yet have set opening times, so we recommend calling ahead if you’re planning a visit.
