Coast Path diversion near Burton Bradstock

Following a major cliff fall (24th July) near Burton Bradstock, the majority of the Coast Path has now been re-opened, with the exception of the section between Burton Freshwater and Hive Beach, where a diversion is still in place.

For details of the alternative route are shown on the map below. The red line indicates the closed section, and the green is the alternative route

As there is still a heightened risk of further cliff falls, visitors are being strongly advised to avoid areas of beach that have a cliff backdrop between Lyme Regis and West Bexington and heed any warning signs.

Landslips and rockfalls are common along this stretch of the south coast, which is constantly eroding, and is one of the reasons it has been designated a World Heritage Site.

Ongoing geological monitoring is underway, and this article will be updated as soon as we have further advice.
