Stunning shot of Land’s End wins top spot in photo competition
A spectacular image of Land’s End in Cornwall by a keen amateur photographer has beaten hundreds of
entrants to scoop the South West Coast Path’s annual photographic competition.
Entitled “End of the Line”, the winning photograph was taken by Peter Edwards, 56, a driving instructor from near Camborne in Cornwall, and will appear on the front of the South West Coast Path’s 2015 calendar.
Says Peter, who only took up photography 18 months ago, and shot the winning image on a Nikon D700 with a 16-35mm lens: “To say I'm pleased would be an understatement - I am over the moon! This is a prestigious national award which attracts a very high calibre of entries every year. Before becoming a driving instructor I was in the Navy for 23 years and would sail past Land’s End on the Western approach on numerous occasions, and it always had a very special atmosphere. The ever-changing light and weather make it a wonderful photographic spot to capture.”
The winner was chosen by award-winning photographer Ben Osborne, a former Wildlife of the Year photographer, who said of Peter’s shot: “I adore the pastel light and the sense of peace, space and ‘endness’ of this photograph. It was definitely my personal favourite from the shortlisted entries.”
The calendar will go on sale this summer and will be available from the South West Coast Path Association’s website and other regional retail outlets including WH Smiths. A proportion of the sale price from each calendar goes towards Coast Path improvements.
The competition was kindly sponsored by Cornish Cottage Holidays and Peter will receive a complimentary holiday in one of their properties to the value of £700.
