Summary

Down at Prawle Point you are at the most southerly spot in Devon, with an atmosphere all of its own. This 3½ mile walk will take you along some of the most ancient-feeling lanes in the area, leading down to the sea and the timeless rhythm of the tide. A good walk in autumn, as finches and warblers start to gather, and later firecrests and ring ouzels. Look out for a hen harrier hunting them, or the high-speed dive of a peregrine.

Route Description

Green lanes are unmade roads used over the centuries as working routes by farmers, tradesmen, pilgrims, smugglers, drovers, quarrymen and miners. They now form a network of hidden byways threading through the South Hams countryside.

On the Right Tracks is a unique project that is helping to restore many of these historic routes to their former glory, with the support of 50 local businesses, visitors and the local community. To help people to experience these lanes, they have produced a series of walk leaflets, and have kindly allowed us to make the ones on the coast available from this website.

Down at Prawle Point, you are at the most southerly spot in Devon, with an atmosphere all of its own. This walk will take you along some of the most ancient-feeling lanes in the area, leading you down to the sea and the timeless rhythm of the tide.
