Route Description
A section of the Tarka Trail and South West Coast Path that takes you along the estuary of the river Taw from Fremington Quay, east towards Barnstaple.
The route follows an old railway line and is flat, tarmaced and used by walkers and cyclists as well as being accessible to wheelchairs. There is a car park, cafe and heritage centre at the start/end of the walk, but unfortunately no accessible toilets.
- The first section of the route passes through a sheltered and wooded cutting with abundant wildflowers in May and June before becoming more open with views of salt marshes and the hills above Barnstaple.
There are some benches and shelters along the route.
- There is a shelter here with benches and perches, but it is not accessible to wheelchairs. From here retrace the route back to the start.
It may be worth bringing your binoculars if you are a keen birdwatcher!
