Our Projects - Pendeen Old Cliff

This is a wild, remote section of the Coast Path which at 2 locations was suffering from water erosion that is gullying the path, and so was becoming unsightly, and increasingly difficult to walk. To remedy this, with funding from the South West Coast Path Association the National Trust have installed granite steps and cut-offs to divert the water off the path along with landscaping / revegetating of the eroded areas beside the path.

The biggest challenge for the staff, volunteers and contractors, in completing projects like this is to transport the huge and heavy lumps of granite to remote sections of cliff far from vehicular access – and takes a mix of experience, ingenuity and raw muscle to achieve.
