Our Projects - Marazion Beach bridge

This project involved the repair and installation of additional gabions to prevent erosion around the bridge caused by storm damage, and revived a vital link of coast path, protecting users from having to walk along a busy road section without suitable pavement.

Works were to protect the base and footings of the footbridge, which were suffering river water scour.  This involved removing the existing damaged stone-filled gabion baskets; digging out a foundation trench and back-filling with concrete below the waterline; installing metal gabion baskets in layers and filling with stones, placing facing stone on all visible external sides to match the adjacent road bridge fascia; back-filling and tidying the surrounds with local site sand and stone material to blend the new works into the landscape.

The work was funded by the Coastal Communities Fund grant achieved by the South West Coast Path Association.
