Our Projects - Inkerman Bridge-bridge parapet repair

Reconstruction of Bridge Parapet

The excessive rain early in 2014 during the frequent storms caused an unusually large amount of water to build up behind the parapet wall and soak down through and behind the retaining wall. The retaining wall on the east side of the stream and culvert gave way and collapsed down the steep side of the combe into the stream, taking with it the large stone ditching, approximately one third of the parapet wall and half of the width of the track.

Work to rebuild the Path and Bridge, and install more robust drainage was coordinated by the National Trust using funds secured by the South West Coast Path Association from the Coastal Communities Fund, and the work was completed just before Christmas 2014.
