Our Projects - Kynance Cove - Beach access steps rebuilt

The exceptional fierce storms of February 2014 damaged beyond repair the steps leading down to this beautiful cove from the main carpark. A temporary flight was installed by the National Trust wardens and volunteers in time for the 2014 summer season to avoid a lengthy diversion, but it was clear that a more permanent solution was needed. During early 2015 local contractors KPK were brought in to build the substantial stone faced steps you see here today. Building these on such an exposed site was a real challenge, with a huge amount of stone being moved by hand, and the work having to be fitted in around tides and storms.

The work was co-ordinated by the National Trust using funds secured by the South West Coast Path Association from the Coastal Communities Fund.
