Our Projects - River Erme historic slipways

The project involved restoring the surface and retaining wall of the historic slipways leading to the beach and Erme river crossing at Mothecombe in the South Devon Area Of Natural Beauty. The slipway takes the South West Coast Path down to the Erme estuary edge. Coast path walkers must cross the estuary by wading it at low tide: there is no bridge or ferry crossing. The slipway is a distinctive feature that had fallen into significant disrepair with uneven and missing surfacing and deep voids in the structure where wave attack was working its way into the stonework.
