Our Projects - Duporth Strand 2 project

The South West Coast Path at Duporth was closed after the supporting cliffs failed and the Path was completely lost almost 5 years ago. Thanks to funds raised by the South West Coast Path Association and from the Unlocking our Coastal Heritage project the path is now open once again.

The County Geologist was involved immediately and the main issue of instability centred on the poor structural geology that supported the Path, that of easily eroded Devonian Shale. Given that the shale cliffs were/are likely to continue eroding, it was recommended that the alignment of the new Path should be placed a minimum distance of 10m back from the original line.
