Our Projects - YHA Education
This project has created a sustainable outdoor education programme that provides meaningful experiences for children and young people in the South West linked to the South West Coast Path. The YHA drew up a detailed specification of the work required which fell into three specific areas: 1 Creation and delivery of a one day walking /guide awareness course on the SWCP specifically for the YHA. This included route planning, health and safety and risk assessment, group management, equipment, ratio of adults to children, roles and responsibilities, engagement with participants and a SWCP overview. 2 GPS Challenge Treasure Hunt. This included research, design and planning of a GPS challenge, the supply of 6 handheld GPS units and ½ day training to YHA staff and lesson plan notes , teachers guide and National Curriculum links. 3 Team challenge manual. This included the design and development of an electronic version of a Team Challenge manual, linked to the SWCP focused on developing team values and personal qualities. The manual included between 15-20 activities with supporting activity sheets to give an outline of the activity, the equipment required, scripts for introduction, an explanation of the challenge and exploration of the outcomes.
