Our Projects - Gara Rock

The aim of this project was to create an improved safer access path from the South West Coast Path to Seacombe Sands Beach near Gara Rock in South Devon. The current access to the beach is slippery and unsafe and the National Trust has had many complaints from the public concerned about their safety. Thanks to funds raised by the South West Coast Path Association and from the Unlocking our Coastal Heritage project, this project resolved the problem by cutting into the rock face and creating approximately 10 steps down to the beach and installing a galvanised handrail. In addition parts of the existing path were widened, stone steps installed and a revetment created. At the top where the path joins the South West Coast Path approximately 3 stone steps were installed.
