Our Projects - Burton Bradstock

The South West Coast Path at Burton Bradstock, Dorset was closed for public safety reasons in July 2012. The cliffs had shown evidence of being unstable and therefore we could not allow people to have access to the cliff top path. This meant a diversion inland, away from the coast and therefore cutting out a long section of the coastal walk. An expert geological report advised that the path had to move inland, away from a certain section of cliff. This meant re-routing it around a group of buildings and then back to meet the existing route. We worked closely with Dorset Countryside Ranger Team, to ascertain a safe route for the coast path. The new route involves a short detour inland from the car park at Hive Beach to the end of Cliff Road. It then re-joins the existing coast path 150 metres further along the cliff top.
