Our Projects - Raphael Steps

This is a quite remote section of the South West Coast Path between Polperro and Lansallos where there are long flights of steps following the topography of the coastline. This flight of steps comprises steps that were partially upgraded under a previous project (CP54) but the remaining steps were constructed out of sub standard timber. These were continuing to fail at a rapid rate. Thanks to funds raised by the South West Coast Path Association and from the Unlocking our Coastal Heritage project, this project has addressed the consequent safety and access issues. 81 steps were installed using local durable hardwood to a high standard.
