Our Projects - Poltesco
The track down the hill into Poltesco from Cadgwith, which forms part of the South West Coast Path, was originally created to serve the Victorian serpentine factory. With more severe rainfall events, the path was regularly being damaged by storm flow, causing the grips to overflow and deep gulleys to form. Thanks to funds raised by the South West Coast Path Association and from the Unlocking our Coastal Heritage project, this project has lined culverts with more substantial pipes, meaning that stormflow should now flow under and away from the path, rather than overflowing and running down the path surface. All stone grips have been replaced and improved, and exit channels cleared and widened. Badly gullied sections of path have been regraded and resurfaced, to match the existing serpentine surface, and maintain the historical integrity of the track.
