Mawgan Porth Resilience

Every Mile Matters because when we invest in one part of the Trail, we help secure a whole unbroken route for the future

Access is currently difficult on the stretch of the Trail between Newquay and Mawgan Porth due to exposed rock and a rough surface.

What we are doing

The South West Coast Path Association has secured funding to enable Cornwall Council to access a Rural Development Programme for England grant to upgrade the surface of the Trail either side of Mawgan Porth.

How it will help

The works will make the Path more attractive and easier to use by improving surfacing, drainage and installing new steps. Importantly, the project aims to make this section more resilient to erosion as part of work towards future proofing the Path against climate change and inceased footfall.

Total project cost: £27,000

Partners: Cornwall County Council

Association contribution: £5,000 approx.

Date completed: due for completion by Spring 2021

This project was funded with support from the Rural Development Programme for England (RDPE) and the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development: Europe investing in rural areas. Thanks to supporters of the South West Coast Path Association, we have been able to allocate £100,000 to leverage in £750,000 worth of improvements across the Trail as part of the RDPE programme 2019 - 2020.
