Head of fundraising

Christie Burton

The South West Coast Path has been there for us when we, as locals and visitors alike, have needed it; big vistas to gain perspective, fresh air to blow away the cobwebs, glorious sunshine, staggering scenery, vitally important time with our family and friends, miles of space to stretch our limbs and our minds, get inspiration, be creative, and even to seek solace in challenging times. The South West Coast Path needs our help now. With multiple named storms already this year, and climate change showing us exactly what it can do, I am here as Head of Fundraising to help us all give back to this precious place; to help it survive.

I graduated in International Business and began my career working in the City as a global data analyst for Bloomberg and ABN Amro, and have travelled the world on a self-guided tour hiking The Inca Trail, The Great Wall of China and the Franz Josef Glacier in New Zealand, and learning to scuba dive in Thailand. My favourite stretch of the South West Coast Path is the fabulous coastline of the South Hams, where I have lived and worked for 10 years, with my husband and our many rescued animals. We got engaged at Burgh Island and married at Wembury. I have had one go at stand up paddleboarding (so far!) at Hope Cove.

I have worked professionally as a fundraiser, and in the wonderful world of philanthropy, for the National Trust, the Dartington Hall Trust and the Mare and Foal Sanctuary. Now, when I am not working, or walking, I am in my garden, or at an open garden, and studying for RHS qualifications, which began as a lockdown project!
