Making your money go further
Your membership is absolutely crucial to the work we do in protecting and improving the Coast Path. That’s why we’re very careful how we spend the money you contribute to the Association through your membership fees. As of 1st January 2019, membership fees will increase, and with this change, we will do more with your money.
Your membership already helps us to make lots of positive improvements on the Path, enabling us to raise funds and give the Path a voice. From January, we will ring fence £10 of each membership subscription within a dedicated fund for Path projects. As we have in the past, we will use this money to lever more funding into projects that allows us to make your money go even further.
The Association has a proud history of getting best value from your support. Back in 2014, the UK was hit with ferocious storms that caused unprecedented damage to the Coast Path, leaving a large number of sections closed. We were able to leverage £40k of Association funds to secure over £175k of partnership funding. This in turn was used to unlock £1.1 million through the Coastal Communities Fund (CCF). With this money we completed 41 repair and improvement projects in partnership with the National Trust and local councils.
Your membership fees are helping us right now with projects like the Rural Development Programme for England (RDPE) funding bids. The Trail Partnership will use £100,000 of Association funds to lever a further £650,000 of funding that, if successful, will go towards improvements in over 50 locations along the South West Coast Path in 2019.
In addition to the significant grants mentioned above, our Path Committee receives bids to support projects along the Coast Path. Many improvements along the Trails are made with your funds being used to leverage greater investment. A good example is the ‘Explore South Devon’ project, which we’ve just invested £9,400 to secure £47,000 being spent on the Coast Path within the South Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
We are also mindful of the responsibility we have as a charity to be transparent in the way that we use your contributions and this year we want to assure you again that we’re doing the best we can with your money.
