TV’s Julia Bradbury & Olympian Jo Pavey back efforts to raise £40,000 for the Coast Path

The new campaign called 40 FOR 40 was launched this month by the South West Coast Path Association, the charity that helps to look after the Path, to mark 40 years since the South West Coast Path opened. More than 9 million people every year use on the South West Coast Path to experience nature and adventure, as well as support their mental and physical well-being. However, most don’t realise the hard work that goes into keeping the coastline accessible.

The Association is calling for individuals, groups and businesses to show their support by making a donation, doing a sponsored walk, run or host a fundraiser event like a coffee morning.  Fundraisers have already started backing the campaign and pledging their support. The money raised will be used to repair or replace vital infrastructure that makes the Path accessible to everyone such as steps, way markers, stiles, gates and bridges. It will also support the charity’s community outreach work aimed at getting people more active in the outdoors. You can donate right now to help the Association reach the first £10,000, which will help replace 1,000 steps this summer.

Julia Bradbury said, “Walking is Britain’s favourite form of exercise and exploring our wonderful coastline is a fab way to get fit. The South West Coast Path is a gem, the whole trail is so varied and diverse so whether you want to do the whole stretch, or admire Old Harry Rocks, there really is something for everyone. I wish everyone the best of luck with their #40FOR40 challenge!”

Five-time Olympian runner Jo Pavey is also backing the campaign. Jo said, “I’m backing the 40 FOR 40 campaign because I’m passionate about people being able to enjoy the great outdoors. Our Coast Path is so precious and should be maintained, protected and enhanced so that it can be enjoyed by everyone for many years to come. My hope is that my own kids will always love the Path and its surroundings just like I have, and that people of all ages can continue to enjoy it.”

The South West Coast Path Association have until 31st October to reach their ambitious target. If you would like to get involved in 40 FOR 40 or make a donation to the campaign, please click here.
