New digital tools help plan the perfect walking holiday on the South West Coast Path
Discover England’s South West Coast Path with a new free walks app for Apple and Android devices, and a range of themed itineraries to make booking a walking holiday on this national trail easier than ever before – just in time to celebrate National Walking Month this May.
Whether you’re looking for an afternoon stroll to take you to a beautiful view, or for a week-long hike like no other, you can choose from a range of itineraries or create your own for the ultimate walking holiday on the South West Coast Path.
The itineraries feature active, historical and cultural walking breaks, from the highest sea cliffs on Exmoor to the legendary coast of King Arthur, and the World Heritage sites in Dorset and East Devon and West Cornwall. There are 6 themed areas to choose from and ideas for a 1-7-day walking holiday within each one.
In addition, a new feature on the South West Coast Path Association’s website allows walkers to mix and match day walks to tailor-make their own itinerary, including things to do, places to eat and sleep and the logistics of how to travel from place to place.
The 6 themed areas include:
The Wilderness Coast – Exmoor, Minehead to Combe Martin
The Coast of Legends – North Devon and Cornwall, Clovelly to Tintagel
The Wild West Coast: Tin mining industry and story of Poldark – Mounts Bay to St Ives
The Nautical Coast – South Devon, Plymouth to Dartmouth
The Timeless Coast - Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site – Charmouth to Seaton
The Seafood Coast – English Riviera, Brixham, Torbay
Alternatively, visitors can book through one of the listed walking holiday companies that provide a complete service (booking, luggage transfers etc) for those that require it.
Itineraries can be found on the South West Coast Path site at http://www.southwestcoastpath.org.uk/itineraries/en/home and more information about the project is available at www.southwestcoastpath.org.uk/DEF
