Third time lucky for Challenger set to walk the Coast Path
There's just under two weeks to go until the Coast Path Challenge kicks off and it's not too late to sign up and take part in any of the organised events, or simply to register your own Coast Path walk.
One challenger, who will be adding at least another 20 miles to our mileometer is Steve Pattemore, a long-standing member of the South West Coast Path Association who has already completed the coast path – not just once but twice – and counting!
Having walked the Coast Path in both directions; from Minehead to Poole and Poole to Minehead, he now plans to walk alternate legs on both the north and south coasts to arrive at Lands’ End as his finish point. For the first two legs, he’ll be joining the organised 10-mile walks as part of the South West Coast Path Challenge, with Minehead to Porlock Weir on Saturday 1st October and from Durlston to South Haven Point on Saturday 29th October.
Taking part in the Challenge is a great way to kick start your own journey of a lifetime along the coast path and for Steve, who was receiving treatment for cancer in 2009 and given the ‘all clear’ in 2014, he believes it wasn’t only life-affirming but also life-saving.
He says; “I am sure that my love of walking, the great outdoors and very much in particular, the South West Coast Path, has all contributed greatly to my staying healthy. In fact I believe my Oncologist prescribed the Coast Path as a remedy – better than any pills!”
Whether you’re able to take part or not, you could still show your support by donating online via the event website below, or simply by sharing an automatically generated post on social media to help spread the word. Simply visit bit.ly/CoastPathThunderclap and sign up via Twitter or Facebook before 1st October.
