Club together for charity golf day on South Devon coast

Local people and businesses are invited to take part in Thurlestone Golf Club’s second annual Charity Golf Day on Friday 11th September, to fundraise for the South West Coast Path Association.

Following the popularity of last year’s event in support of the South Hams Appeal, an Association led campaign, which altogether raised £20,000 for urgent repairs to the South West Coast Path in the South Hams, Thurlestone Golf Club are holding the charity golf day once again to continue its support for the Association’s work.

The event has been sponsored by Bartons Solicitors, with fantastic prizes donated by Thurlestone Hotel and South Sands Hotel, including overnight accommodation at their acclaimed coastal hotels.

This 18-Hole Four Ball-Better-Ball Stableford Competition at just £60 per pair, including a hot two course lunch, is a great opportunity to play on this stunning golf course, with its cliff top location and breath-taking views of the legendary Thurlestone Rock to the East and the beautiful Avon Estuary and Burgh Island to the West. It’s a perfect fit with the great cause - protecting the South West Coast Path.

Steve Gledhill, Manager of the Thurlestone Golf Course, said:

"This event is a combination of golf on one of the best courses in the South West, a fun day of competition with some wonderful prizes donated by local businesses, a buffet prepared by our superb chefs whilst also supporting the region's primary leisure attraction, The South West Coast Path. All proceeds from the entry fees will go to support the Association’s work to protect the coastline so come and join us on 11th September 2015 - entry forms can be downloaded from our website www.thurlestonegolfclub.co.uk and click on the Opens tab"

Hayley Partridge, the South West Coast Path Association’s Events Officer is looking forward to the event saying;

“We are encouraging teams of golfers to sign up and take part in this enjoyable competition and it can be a day out for all the family to enjoy. We are organising the popular tombola again this year, all raising funds for essential maintenance to the beautiful Coast Path.”

The South West Coast Path is a vital link in the tourism industry, generating more than £227 million for Devon from an estimated 3.2 million visitors to the path.

Entries are now open. If you’d like to enter a team please contact the Manager, Steve Gledhill, at [email protected] or by telephone on 01548 560405.
