Nomination for Coast Path in British Travel Awards
The South West Coast Path Association is pleased to announce that the South West Coast Path National Trail has been nominated as a finalist for the Best UK Leisure Attraction in the prestigious 2015 British Travel Awards (BTA). The winners will be determined by public votes cast by 30 September and announced at the BTA Gala Awards Dinner, being held in London on 25 November 2015.
It’s the first time the Coast Path has entered into the awards and the organization that seeks to promote and protect the walking route has high hopes of success.
Mark Owen, the National Trail Officer for the Coast Path said:
“Many people who visit the South West do so to be beside the seaside and more often than not, this will include a walk on the Coast Path at some point. It would be fantastic to be recognized by the great British public for all the hard work we do to keep the way open to beautiful coastal places.”
Whether you’re looking for an afternoon stroll to take you to a beautiful view, or for a challenge like no other in hiking the entire 630 mile route from Somerset's Minehead around to the shores of Poole Harbour in Dorset, there’s a walk to suit all ages and abilities and unlike many of the South West’s attractions, it’s free to use whenever and wherever you fancy taking a stroll.
It is the natural beauty of the coastline that attracts 8 million visitors to the South West who go on to spend £439m whilst here according to latest research. This helps support 9771 FTE jobs in the region.
British Travel Awards’ chief executive Lorraine Barnes Burton said:
“The British Travel Awards are the largest consumer voted programme in the UK. Last year more than 1.25 million votes were cast to determine the winners and to receive a BTA is a true accolade, with the awards being recognized by the travelling public as the benchmark for excellence. Good luck to the South West Coast Path - all their happy customers must cast their votes by 30th September. ”
The British Travel Awards is a proudly independent organization, with the votes verified by leading global accountancy practitioners Deloitte.
Don't forget to spread the word and share your vote on social media to encourage your friends and family to vote too!
