New Coast Path walk books

Two inspirational new guides to walks along the South West Coast Path National Trail were launched at the English Riviera Geopark Festival on Sunday 5th June.

Walks along the South West Coast Path – Exmouth to Dartmouth featuring the English Riviera Global Geopark and Walks along the South West Coast Path – Dartmouth to Plymouth, each feature spectacular walks along this magnificent coastline. They follow on from two walks books covering the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site and the series will continue along the entire length of the South West Coast Path between Poole and Minehead.

Each book is published in the form of a beautifully illustrated 64-page full colour guide with fantastic aerial photography to map each route. They provide an essential guide to exploring the local area on foot and include full route descriptions along with highlights of some fascinating features to look out for along the way. All walks take up to half a day or less to complete and most are circular with suggestions about where to stop for refreshments en route.

Written by Ruth Luckhurst and Melanie Border, Ruth says, “My passion is for exploring, for unlocking the secrets of Britain's hidden places, and I have acquired a certain reputation for finding inspiration in the unlikeliest of settings. The South West Coast Path, however, requires no effort of imagination: every mile of it yields some fascinating feature, be it an awe-inspiring cliff-face or a rare and delicate orchid. "I hope that as I share the splendid banquet that is the Coast Path, other walkers will be moved to feast on its delights and come away with a desire for more.”

The spectacular scenery along the 630 miles of the South West Coast Path is enjoyed by millions of walkers every year and each location has a story to tell about the processes that have shaped it. The landscape along the English Riviera and South Devon coast includes a UNESCO designated Geopark, internationally important heritage sites and some impressive National Trust properties, as well as the South Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

These books will help you learn as you walk, gaining knowledge that can only enhance your enjoyment. By purchasing these books you will support the English Riviera Global Geopark and the South West Coast Path and contribute to their conservation for future generations.

Peter Sills, Publisher of Coastal Publishing said: “We are delighted to continue this successful series and extend our support to the organizations in the region who work to protect and promote it, by publishing these two new books. They will give the thousands of visitors who come to walk the South West Coast Path each year a unique insight into this beautiful and fascinating coastline”.

Melanie Border, Co-ordinator of the Riviera Geopark says, "We are really excited to see these books in print which provide a different aspect to both walking the coast and the Global Geopark. It has been really good working in partnership with Coastal Publishing and the South West Coast Path Team and we would like to thank all those involved in creating such great books."

The books are on sale from from bookshops, Tourist Information Centres and Visitor Centres along the coast from Exmouth to Plymouth. They can also be ordered from the South West Coast Path Association’s online shop.

Another seven volumes covering from the rest of the Coast Path from Plymouth through to Minehead are scheduled to be published by summer 2013.
