There’s just three weeks to go until the South West Coast Path Challenge kicks off and with over 5,000 miles pledged so far, the target, to surpass 10,000 miles walked on the Coast Path in one month, is well in sight.

School’s out for summer – A chance to walk the whole path

We often get asked when the best time to walk the Coast Path is. For all teachers, lecturers, professors and those who have a larger break in the summer holidays - it has to be over the months of July and August. Even in the ‘big six weeks’ as they’re called down here, there is room for everyone and you’ll be amazed at the number of hours you have the coast views to yourself on long stretches.

New BBC TV series about the Coast Path

A new series about the South West Coast Path starts tonight on BBC 1 at 7.30pm. Initially it will only be shown in the South West region, but there are plans to broadcast it nationally on BBC2 in November, but if you can't wait until then we expect it to be on iplayer.

Running to keep up with the cost of maintaining the Coast Path

Avid runners and fitness enthusiasts are invited to attend the 17.5 mile Trail Running Challenge on 2nd October organised by Trail Events Co. in partnership with the South West Coast Path Association. The Association is looking to break the world record for the number of times the 630 mile route is walked or run in one month, whilst raising much needed funds to maintain and protect the Path. Nearly 150 runners have registered for this Challenge so far, pledging to run over 2600 miles between them.

Poldark and pasties are features of Coast Path Challenge events in Cornwall

The South West Coast Path Association and the National Trust, their charity partner, have created a 2016 Challenge event, covering the whole month of October. They are looking for people to collectively stomp over 10,000 miles to raise thousands of pounds in sponsorship - so far over 3,500 miles have been pledged by 260 walkers! It costs at least £1,000 to maintain just 1 mile of Coast Path and an additional £2,000 for the National Trust to take care of the countryside that surrounds it, so every mile pledged this autumn will really count.
