Nordic Walking in North Devon

Learn to Nordic walk in North Devon

Have you always wanted to try Nordic Walking? Well now is your chance! As part of our Couch to Coast series, we’re working with Nordic Walking instructor Jane Cumming to teach you everything you need to know in just 12 weeks. Thanks to the help of Active Devon, we’re offering this as a greatly reduced rate to help over 55s in Devon get more active.

Starting on Tuesday 25th February, we’ll meet on a weekly basis to first learn how to use the poles and master the technique that helps you go further and faster than you usually could walking normally. This will take place in Rock Park in Barnstaple. We’ll then put our new learned skills to the test by exploring some of North Devon’s amazing South West Coast Path.

To find out more about Nordic Walking, watch this quick video put together by Nordic Walking UK.

Who is it for?

Absolutely anyone can Nordic walk. When used properly, the poles take the weight off the knees and lower body joints to make you feel lighter on your feet. So even if you’re a complete beginner, unfit or have difficulty walking normally – you’ll be able to have a go.

This particular programme is aimed at 55s and over taking their first steps back into being more active and who would like to take part in gentle, social, guided activity in nature. These sessions are designed to introduce you to the beauty and variety of the South West Coast Path and help you plan future trips to the Coast Path.

Each session will be led by an experienced and accredited Nordic Walking instructor and each week we will be building up the distance gradually so that on the last session, we complete a full 5km.

There will be an introductory session to the project at 10am on Tuesday 25th February 2020 at The Park Hotel in Barnstaple. This will be a chance to ask any questions, meet others in the group, fill out the necessary paperwork and arrange payment.

First meeting: The Park Hotel, Taw Vale, Barnstaple EX32 9AE
