International Trails Day
Saturday 5th June 2021
A chance to show your gratitude for trails and say thank you all the amazing people involved in looking after them. Join our celebration and make a #TrailTribute
Together with our family of National Trails across England and Wales, along with the trails we work with internationally, we’re inviting you to celebrate with us this June. Saturday 5th will be a moment to pay tribute to trails and express our gratitude to the countless people entrusted with looking after them. Here in the South West, we’ll also be asking for your help to equip one very important group of people – our volunteers - with the tools and training they need to continue caring for the South West Coast Path.
What will your #TrailTribute be?
To celebrate we’re asking you to share a trail tribute to thank everyone involved in making trails. To kick things off, we’ve been chatting to some familiar faces to find out what it is they love so much about trails.
Bill Bryson's #TrailTribute
“If there is anything more life-enhancing than a bracing tramp through the British countryside, then I have yet to find it. If I were to list the ten things I most like and admire about Britain, at least four of them would be long-distance footpaths.”
Kate Humble's #TrailTribute
"The South West Coast Path is one of Britain’s national treasures! Big thank yous to all the wonderful people and organisations who work so hard to give us one of the world’s most spectacular walking trails."
Nick Butter's #TrailTribute
"As a runner, I am acutely aware that every mile matters, an ethos proudly shared with South West Coast Path. I’m so incredibly grateful to the dedicated volunteers, who by keeping the path safe and accessible inspire a way to celebrate the unique and stunning scenery of the South West coast."
Celebrate with us!
We’d love to hear your trail tributes too! To get involved simply post a picture on social media on Saturday 5th June of your favourite trail (or you on the trail!), along with your words of thanks to the people who help to look after it. Use the hashtag #TrailTribute and tag in the trail so we can find your post!
If you’re not on social media and would like to take part, email your tribute to us at [email protected] We’ll also be going back through some of the hundreds of letters and emails we’ve been sent and sharing some of our favourite trail tributes that have come into us over the years.
