Walks from Dawlish Warren Station

Dawlish Warren Station opened in 1905 as Warren Halt but not on this site. It was situated nearer to the sea wall by the footbridge which was built in 1873. In 1907 it was renamed Warren Platform when the platform was extended to 120m long. In 1911 it changed its name to Dawlish Warren. In 1912, the present day station was built, 400 metres nearer to Starcross.

  A walk along the Exe Valley trail to the harbour at Cockwood then a circular walk. Continue past marshland full of wildlife then climb up Cofton Hill for magnificent views of the Exe estuary. There has been a settlement in Cockwood since Norman times. Either return to Dawlish Warren Station or continue up the Exe Valley Trail to Starcross Station.

  This is an easy walk on level roads and paths,taking in some wonderful views along the coast before passing some interesting buildings in this fascinating Regency resort.   Enjoy an easy walk on paths around the Dawlish Warren National Nature Reserve, an internationally important wildlife site. From the bird hide overlooking the mudflats it is possible to have up to 30 species of birds in view.
