South West Coast Path Challenge

Thank you to all those who walked or ran in October to raise money for the South West Coast Path!

We really hope that you enjoyed adding your miles to the Coast Path Challenge 2016

Collectively we broke our record from previous years; nearly 800 people took part this year, which equated to either walking or running over 12,594 miles during October – that's 20 times along the distance of the Path!

So far, £18,636 has been raised (plus gift aid) with money still arriving in the office.  So if you have anything to add to this amazing sum, please don't be shy, as we'd love to hear from you.

As I am sure you are aware, the Association is a registered charity that seeks to support and protect the incredible asset of the South West Coast Path for future generations and we work to generate fundraised income that acts as leverage to secure larger grants.   Unfortunately, government funding of the South West Coast Path has sadly declined by 30% in the past three years and is under constant further threat, placing even more need on the Association to work hard to raise funds.  Your fundraising therefore is extremely welcomed and will be put towards Path improvements.

Once again, thank you for helping to protect our amazing asset, the South West Coast Path.

Our patron Monty Halls loves the Coast Path and says, “This is one of the most magical trails in Europe and a great way to get into nature. The October Challenge is one of the ways that we can do that and raise money."

The South West Coast Path Association are partnering with the National Trust to raise funds for much needed improvement and repair projects to our beautiful Coast Path, which is enjoyed by millions of visitors every year.

  • It costs at least £1000 every year to look after one mile of Coast Path

  • £25 can buy one timber step

  • £350 can provide a Coast Path signpost to ensure you don’t lose your way!

  • Public funding for the Path has been cut by 30%, we need to raise money to keep the Path accessible and in good shape

  • All funds raised are split equally between the South West Coast Path Association and the National Trust - as charities we look after the Path
